Our history

Part of Clinton since 1866

Clinton Lodge has been a member of the Clinton community for more than a century and a half, and has continually occupied its Lodge building since 1876. The names of every Master who has led the Lodge are recorded on our Past Masters page.

1829

The first permanent settlers put down roots along the River Raisin. The village takes its name from New York Governor DeWitt Clinton.

1837

Clinton incorporates as a village the same year Michigan becomes a state.

1866

Clinton Lodge No. 175 is chartered under the Grand Lodge of Michigan — the same year 100 local stockholders organize the Clinton Woolen Mill.

1869

The first Township officials are elected as Clinton Township is formed out of Tecumseh Township.

1876

The Town Hall rises at 172 West Michigan Avenue, Clinton's first hall for public gatherings — known ever since as the Masonic Building. The Lodge has occupied it continuously from that day.

1927

Henry Ford buys Clinton's old Union Hotel and moves it to Greenfield Village, where it stands today as the Clinton Inn.

2026

160 years of building community and making good men better.
